Endorsements
The Massachusetts Sierra Club actively
works to endorse and promote pro-environment
candidates at the local, state, and national level. Resources are
provided here for members researching a candidates history of
endorsement with the Club, as well as for political candidates seeking
endorsement. Click here for our list of
endorsements.
Process
The endorsement process involves a number of steps. We start by
identifying key races, soliciting applications from qualified
candidates, and reviewing the candidates' records, accomplishments,
community involvement, answers to our questionnaires, and potential
interviews. We review all available information and also welcome
opinions from all Sierra Club members.
- We actively seek out those incumbent
legislators who have promoted and supported the Sierra Club's
pro-environmental stands.
- We evaluate selected races, interviewing
prospective endorsees using questionnaires and/or live interviews, as
well as reviewing their record of public service.
- We work with local groups in verifying a
candidate’s record and actions.
How to Apply for Endorsement
- Contact the committee (See
Contacts page) as early in
the process as possible, letting us know that you're running. Include
your contact information as well as that of your campaign manager.
- We'll confirm receipt, and let you know
when the process starts.
- When you receive the questionnaire, be
sure to return it promptly.
- After the questionnaires are received, we
will contact you if we wish to schedule an interview. Interviews are
conducted in person or by phone.
- We'll keep in touch with you during the
process.
The Political Committee
The Chapter Political Committee identifies candidates who are
expected to best represent the goals of the Sierra Club on environmental
issues and legislation. Our goal is to endorse and support candidates
who can be counted on to preserve the environment. The committee meets
regularly throughout the year.
We have played an increasingly active role in elections in recent
years. This highly active committee welcomes volunteer participation –
particularly during the busy campaign season – to assist with research,
phone calls, and interviews. We are also looking for longer-term
volunteer committee members who have knowledge of Massachusetts politics
and wish to be part of the endorsement process.
PAC Donations
The Political Committee welcomes PAC donations. These funds are
critical to our process, and your donation of any size will help us
achieve our goals. Please send your check to Mass Sierra Club PAC, 10
Milk St., #632, Boston MA 02108
