Take Action on These Important Issues

The Massachusetts Sierra Club urges you to take action on these important issues by telling your legislators to support key bills.

Will the Legislature act on the Bottle Bill by the deadline?
The Updated Bottle Bill is the single most effective recycling and litter-reducing tool we have. But despite huge support, it's been languishing in the Legislature for over a twelve years. Click here to tell your legilators that this is the last chance they have to pass this bill. If they drop the ball, we head to the ballot.

Ban Plastic Bags

Single-use plastic bags represent one of the greatest environmental catastrophes of our generation. It is estimated that 60-80% of all debris in the ocean is land-based plastic. Plastics take hundreds of years to break down at sea and most types never truly biodegrade. Click here to take action!

Keep Mercury Out of the Trash

Photo courtesy of Virginia Sierra ClubMercury is one of the most dangerous toxins in our environment. Even low-level exposure can permanently damage the brain and nervous system, especially among children. The sources of this mercury are primarily from burning coal and from trash incineration, making its way into the air we breathe and food we eat, especially fish. Mercury is found in lamps and thermostats, which are rarely disposed of properly. There are bills being considered by the state legislature that would require manufacturers to take responsibility for keeping mercury out of the trash. Click here for more about Mercury.

Take Action: Tell your legislator to support the adoption of the language from Mercury bills H.802 and H.814. Click here to tell your legislators that you want strong protections from Mercury.
